ethics and publication malpractice The NPO e-JIKEI Network Promotion Institute’s publications are
committed to ensuring ethics in publication and quality of articles by
eliminating publication malpractice at the highest level of standards. It is
important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all
parties involved: Authors, Editors, Reviewers, Publisher. The submitted works should not have been published before and
should not be under consideration for publication anywhere else. The
submission of the work should have been approved by all co-authors. The
submitted works must represent the authors’ contributions and must not be
copied from other works. If the authors have used the other work, this has to
be appropriately cited. As for a study dealing with the human and/or animal subjects,
the special ethical statement is required. The following is an example, “The study protocol was approved in advance
by [name of committee and/or its institutional sponsor].” If the subject is human, the statement on informed consent is
also needed. The following is an example, “Each subject provided written informed
consent before participating.” A study may be exempt from the above requirements if: a) the data were collected non-invasively during work or
training that the subjects would have undertaken had no experiment existed;
or b) the data were collected using
anonymous questionnaires. Peer review
process The peer review process is to ensure that only good research
papers are published. Reviewers are selected by the editors so that their
fields are close to the submitted papers and they can judge them properly.
The peer review process is outlined as following, Initial
screening Editors make the initial evaluation of all manuscripts submitted
to the journal. It is rare, but possible, for a manuscript to be accepted at
this stage. Manuscripts, which have insufficient originality, logical flaws,
inadequate writing format or contents out of the journal scope, will be
rejected in this stage. Type of peer
review In the peer review process, reviewers remain anonymous to the
authors. Referee
reports Referees are asked to evaluate the submitted manuscript from the
following evaluation points: (1) Has sufficient originality and novelty: (2) Follows appropriate ethical guidelines; (3) Has results, which are clearly presented and support the
conclusions; (4) Has appropriate introduction and references, in which the
previous relevant studies are well explained. How long does
the review process take? The total time of the reviewing process will be less than 2
months. Accepted papers will be published as “accepted papers” in the
section of “upcoming issue under preparation” within 1 month after
acceptance. Accepted papers will be published in the completed issue within
6 months after acceptance. It depends on the availability of the issue. Decision
