Multi-Objective Optimized Energy Management System for Nano-grids

Xiyang Qian, Wei Jiang, Ting Yang, Seiji Hashimoto, and Xun Sun

Journal of Technology and Social Science, Vol.8, No.1, pp.1-11, 2024.

Abstract: With the incessant growth in energy demand and dwindling energy resources, the need for efficient energy management systems for sustainable development has become paramount. Emerging alongside the rise of renewable energy technologies, nano-grids offer an innovative approach to energy distribution. To cater to the unique intricacies and variable nature of nano-grids, we've designed a multi-objective optimized energy management system. A refined particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm, tailored specifically for these systems, has been proposed and implemented on an embedded platform. The paper delves into the design of an optimization model for nano-grid operations, distinctly outlining the objectives: minimizing generation costs, equipment expenditures, and environmental impact. Our simulation results underscore the platform's ability to ensure stable nano-grid operations, facilitating effective energy management and optimization. To conclude, we've integrated data visualization using Node-red. This enables real-time monitoring and showcases the dynamic performance of each power generation unit within the nano-grid.

A Fine Delay Measurement Using Forward and Backward Phase Shift for Online Failure Prediction and Analysis

Kentaroh Katoh, Toru Nakura, Xiaoqing Wen, and Haruo Kobayashi

Journal of Technology and Social Science, Vol.8, No.1, pp.12-22, 2024.

Abstract: This paper presents a fine delay measurement using forward and backward phase shift for online failure prediction and analysis. The proposed method uses the secondary shadow clock with the multiplexer (MUX) chain for fine phase shift cascaded with the conventional coarse phase-variable PLL. In the proposed method, first, we perform the coarse slack measurement of target paths based on consecutive path delay test with the forward coarse phase shift with the phase-variable phase locked loop (PLL) clock. Second, we perform the fine slack measurement based on consecutive path delay test with the backward fine phase shift with the MUX chain. The proposed fine and low-cost on-chip delay measurement can be used not only for online prediction of timing failures due to process, voltage, and temperature (PVT) variations and aging, but also for the precise online analysis of failure mechanisms. The experimental results with Artix-7 FPGA of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) show that the measurement resolution is 10.1 ps. It is 9.7 % of the resolution of the conventional methods. The absolute values of differential non-linearity (DNL) and integral non-linearity (INL) are less than 0.005 least significant bit (LSB).

Behavioral Intention Analysis Regarding Exercise After Provision of Health Information

Mieko Masaka

Journal of Technology and Social Science, Vol.8, No.1, pp.23-30, 2024.

Abstract: Japan will be the first country to face a super-aging society with a declining birthrate. This is an unprecedented situation in history. To ensure a sustainable medical and nursing-care system, the population of the country must live long, healthy lives. In this context, exercise is essential for living long, healthy lives. Therefore, this study conducted an author-developed questionnaire survey to understand the processes whereby people decide to exercise for the sake of their health and take action. We asked for cooperation to questionary survey to 1706 participants, and we received an answer from 315 participants. 159 participants who answered that they had no exercise habits at the time of the survey were asked to watch a video about locomotive syndromes. When they were then surveyed about their behavioral intentions regarding exercise, approximately 60% indicated that they would be willing to proactively exercise in the future. Therefore, we made behavioral intention formation model using 159 participant data. Furthermore, this behavioral intention to exercise was found to be related to the participantsf self-efficacy, their ability to anticipate the consequences of not exercising, the impact of exercise on their lives, and structural factors such as exercise facilities.

Person Identification Method Based on Face Recognition and Multiple Object Tracking for Person Following Robot

Taiga Kuroiwa, Xiongwen Jiang, Takahiro Kawaguchi, Haohao Zhang, and Seiji Hashimoto

Journal of Technology and Social Science, Vol.8, No.1, pp.31-37, 2024.

Abstract: This paper proposes a method for a mobile robot to track and follow a specific person. Traditionally, detecting and identifying the target person necessitates the use of various sensors, including expensive options like LiDAR and stereo cameras. However, proposed method utilizes images from an inexpensive monocular camera for this purpose. By employing multiple object tracking and face recognition, the system can detect and identify the target person effectively. Even when the person's face is not visible, the system can still detect and identify the target by combining these two methods. To compare the performance of the conventional and proposed methods, both were applied to a video containing four scenarios. The conventional method correctly identified the target person in only one scenario, while the proposed method was able to identify the target person in all four scenarios. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the proposed person following method, based on face recognition and multiple object tracking, is evaluated through person following experiments. The proposed method successfully detected and identifies the target to be followed for a longer time under various conditions compared to the conventional method.
